We Contain A2 Protein Only Organic Milk

The primary protein in all cow’s milk is casein, and it is found in cow’s milk in several different forms. The beta-casein protein can be present in two forms: A1 and A2, they make up about 80 per cent of the protein in cow’s milk. While A1 is the most common protein found in today’s milk, historically, cows naturally produced only the A2 beta-casein protein, which studies have shown, causes less digestive discomfort (bloating, gas, loose stools) and reduced digestive inflammation when compared to A1 beta-casein and independent of lactose.

At Ocean Road Dairies, we have gone back to Mother Nature’s original milk production process by raising a herd of cows that naturally produce only A2 protein milk and graze on chemical-free pastures.

The Science

The A1 and A2 beta-casein proteins are almost identical — they each contain 209 amino acids, the building blocks of any protein. The only difference between A1 and A2 is a difference in the 67th amino acid in the chain. At this position, A1 has a histidine amino acid, while A2 has a proline amino acid. 

Because of this difference, when the A1 protein is broken down, it creates peptide BCM-7, which may cause digestive discomfort.

The proline amino acid in A2 protein milk prevents BCM-7 from developing in the body, which could make for a gentler milk.

We’re NASAA Certified Organic

Our Organic A2 Protein Infant Formula and Toddler Milk is Certified Organic by the National Association for Sustainable Agriculture Australia (NASAA). This means our Ocean Road Dairies farms have undergone a 3-year certification process to demonstrate our dedication to environmental sustainability and organic farming practices.

Each time milk is heated and turned into powder, it can lose some nutrients. At Ocean Road Dairies, we worked hard to raise a healthy herd of cows that produce a healthy supply of nutrient rich organic A2 protein milk.

To protect these very special nutrients, we start with fresh milk and only turn our milk into powder once throughout the process, instead of starting with milk powder and drying it twice like some regular brands.
